Hi, my name is Jamie Nugent, and here is my story. In 2007, my life changed forever as the dark cloud of cancer cast a shadow over me and my family. Breast Cancer. How could that be? I had followed the anti-cancer lifestyle to the letter. I ate right. I exercised regularly. I lived a healthy lifestyle. Yet there I was. After having a mastectomy and enduring months of chemotherapy, I was left with severe joint pains and a burning sensation under my skin. In addition, depression, weakness, and memory loss were my constant companions. I was simply unable to be the mother and wife I had been for over 20 years. Although my family did everything they could to help me, this only added to my pain in other ways.
Then, when a close family friend lost her life to cancer, my family’s worries about my health began to consume their lives. The children began to struggle in school and other areas of their young lives. I could see the worry in their faces. The many drugs the doctors were giving me were not helping. There seemed to be something missing. Looking back, that was the turning point in our lives. My husband, Warren, began focusing all his energy on finding some way to help me. Little did Warren know, this path would become our destiny.
As a successful entrepreneur, Warren knew that answers would only come from asking questions. During his quest, he became intrigued by the power of certain superfoods. Superfoods are natural foods that are extremely rich in their nutrient profiles and health-protecting qualities. He found a mixture of acai berries, camu camu, cacao and other fruits indigenous to the Amazon rainforest and other regions of the world. Confident with his discovery, he brought home a sample blend of these superfoods to me. At this all-time low period of my life and while taking over 20 pills daily, I agreed to drink the mixture. To his, and especially my relief, I began to feel better within days. The nutrient-rich superfoods began to give me the strength I needed to become a mom and wife again, to be myself.
Within weeks, Warren’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion to see me feel better took him to Belem, Brazil. He traveled along the Amazon River and met with local farmers, producers, and government officials to get to the bottom of what make these superfoods so powerful and why not all are the same. The two most important lessons he learned were: 1) Foods that grow naturally in soils rich in mineral content, like those found in the Amazon, have a much higher nutrient profile, and 2) once these nutrient-rich fruits are picked, they immediately begin to lose their nutrient value. The leap from there was easy: fruits picked from these mineral rich soils and then minimally processed within a certain limited timeframe, retain almost all of their nutrients and enjoy the honorable title of “superfood.”
The dark cloud we were under had finally shown us its silver lining, and Warren’s purpose was clear. He was determined to not only bring me the power of these superfoods, that were harvested and processed the right way, but to also find a way to share them with others that he loved and wanted to see reap the benefits in their own lives. After again seeing me regain my strength and feeling better, by drinking the products he brought back from Brazil, Warren’s entrepreneurial mind and business savvy went to work to find a long-term solution. He was now determined more than ever and his mission became evident.

Our lives consist of making connections. We connect with ourselves to know who we are and why we are here. We connect with others to understand what makes us human. We are constantly creating these relationships. Sometimes, however, connections are made by providence, and we have to accept the path chosen for us.
When we started down the Terra Biotech path it seemed that everyone and everything simply fell into place. Connections happened on a level that we never imagined possible. The properly skilled and experienced people came together and collaborated to build Terra Biotech. People we didn’t even know we needed seemed to miraculously appear and demonstrate a willingness to work like we had never encountered before. And not just as if working on “another project” but with a passion and a sense of mission and purpose because of what we were trying to accomplish. As one person explained to us, the “unpredicted and providential nature” of Warren’s and my journey was the reason for their involvement. And now this has become our destiny.
